Simpson Bay, March 04, 2014 - Longstanding sponsor, The Sol Group, is once again supporting the 34th St. Maarten Heineken Regatta, by providing a comfortable and reliable Water Taxi service absolutely free of cost to competitors in the annual event, sailing from March 6th to 9th, 2014.

Sol, the authorized distributor for Shell Marine products, is also the Official Provider of Motorized Support for the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta, and the Water Taxi Service and support boats are powered exclusively through Shell Marine Lubricants and Sol Fuels.

David Antrobus, General Manager of SOL ANTILLES N.V. St. Maarten said the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta was a main attraction on the sailing calendar which continued to attract a very competitive international field. Noting the event was keenly anticipated by sailors, spectators and sponsors alike, Antrobus said Sol was pleased to contribute to a well-run and enjoyable event by providing sailors with the water taxi service and marine product support.

"At Sol we are passionate supporting our communities, and sponsorship of the sport of sailing through events like this St. Maarten Heineken Regatta, is one way in which we have been able to fulfil this commitment. We are also passionate about producing and supplying high performance premium fuels, such as our quality line of Shell Marine Lubricants such as Shell Nautilus Outboard motor Oil and Sol fuels such as Sol Go Further Gasoline, which we know sailors can rely on for top performance.

Organisers said thanks to Sol's valued and ongoing support, the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta was one of the only regattas in the Caribbean continuing to offer a free water taxi service to participants for more than 12 years.

Explaining how the Sol Water Taxi Service worked, Regatta Director, Michele Korteweg said sailors wanting to go ashore could hoist the Blue & Orange Sol flag during the day or use a glow stick during evening hours, to be collected and ferried to shore by one of the Sol Water Taxi dinghies. Sailors requiring a water taxi service to board their yachts, particularly early in the morning when hurrying to bring in the supplies for the day, need only go to the Sol Water Taxi Service dock.

"Sol's support of the St. Maarten Heineken is ongoing and widespread, expanding to the Sint Maarten Yacht Club (home of the Regatta) in recent years. They are a proud sponsor of the Youth Sailing Project at the club, and they also donate funds to run the annual Sol Optimist Regatta."

"This service would also not be possible without the army of volunteers who are stationed night and day ferrying the sailors to and from their boats. Based at the Sint Maarten Yacht Club, you will see the volunteers' Catamaran on the dock, proudly flying the Sol banners and colours. Each year Sol provides the volunteers with high quality T-shirts that make them instantly recognizable; and this year the volunteers will be dressed in purple so keep an eye out of these fantastic volunteers."

The Sol Group is a leading petroleum company, operating in 21 countries across the Eastern Caribbean, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Bermuda, Bahamas, Cayman, Belize Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana. Sol supplies fuels, lubricants, bitumen and LPG through an extensive service station network, with marine, aviation and commercial operations in the Caribbean. For more information, visit
