I have had the pleasure of doing two Heineken Regattas on Pyewacket and have always come away from the regatta thinking the slogan “serious fun” is spot on. The venue is, without a doubt, gorgeous and the racing is always fun and very competitive. I especially like the types of racing the organizers provide and the great social events at night. The people of St. Maarten have always been so helpful and supportive of any question that is asked.
Certainly one of the best places in the World to race sailboats of any kind.

One of my best memories of the Heineken Regatta was in 1992. I had bought a J29 after hurricane Hugo, and after rebuilding her and reattaching the keel, my first regatta was the Heineken in St. Maarten. Of course on the day we were to sail down from St. Thomas, the wind started blowing 20-30kts, and directly from St. Maarten! A perfect way to test my rebuilt boat! I remember keeping sight of Virgin Gorda as long as I could on the delivery in case my keel fell off and I had to swim back. We made it, had a fantastic regatta, and I vaguely remember the crew carrying the outboard engine we won for first place down the dock and onto the boat for our sail home at midnight after the prize giving.
I really applaud the Heineken Regatta for continuously striving to do more and better each year. You have grown into one of the best events in the world and have helped to put the Caribbean in its rightful place among the elite on the world stage of sailboat racing.
Congratulations on 30 years of promoting serious fun and I look forward to many more years of your great organization, racing, and shore side festivities.

St Martin Heineken Regatta has been a fixture in Sojanas calendar since we first brought her to the Caribbean in 2005. We are always the biggest boat, but every year sees more superyachts realising how much fun they have been missing, and so more competition for us. We have been first in class in '07 and '08, then 2nd last year, so Peter Harrison is keen to get back on top in 2010.
Memories? Too many to choose. Skinny dipping in the moonlight. Shredding our brand new A2 spinnaker. Wondering how Jo Richards can stay so cool threading his way through a tight bunch of bareboats at 12 knots. Trying not to annoy Peter Holmberg at the Match Racing (in case he beats us up even more). Or booking my whole crew in for their ENG1 medical exam the morning after the prizegiving. We all passed, but set a new standard for blood alcohol levels. One crew appearred to have no pulse, but he was still warm, and the doctor was a sailor, so he signed him off too. I would recommend you try to have this much fun at least once a year!
