You can now sail an extra one day regatta with windward leeward courses before the real St.Maarten Heineken Regatta . On Thursday March 6^th This is called the Budget Marine Commodores Cup. If you don’t have the sort of boat that suits this racing (It is limited to Spinnaker carrying boats) you could just hang out or you could watch this very exciting short course racing.

If you have a boat that flies a spinnaker the event can be seen as an event by itself or as a training event for the St.Maarten Heineken Regatta . The racing is scored separately which means that this one day event gives you the chance to warm up the crew and test the boat for failures . If nothing breaks and the crew turn out not to be too disappointing you might even pick up more silverware than usual.

Last year was the first year of the Budget Marine Commodores Cup and it was a huge success with 58 entries. It was easily won by the Volvo 70 ABN AMRO who quite shocked everyone with her speed and the sailing qualities of their crew . The rest of the fleet enjoyed some very tight racing with very close results . Budget Marine is pleased to be the title sponsor of this added day and invite all eligible to participate.

The regatta organization is very proud of this additional day of sailing . It provides flexibility and options to our competitors, provides more racing and specifically the sort of courses that our spinnaker classes enjoy. We heard the positive comments last year and we will build on them this year !
